Recruiter / hr generalist

Share Local Media is an established, profitable, and thriving direct marketing startup. We’re at about 20 people now, and growing! We’re ready for a dedicated internal resource to help with recruiting and basic human resources. That’s you!

You’ll own our recruiting work - develop a long-term, sustainable recruiting presence, and handle candidate screening/interview coordination. You’ll shape and improve the recruiting process.

Our human resources systems are in place and operating smoothly! Phew. However, we could use your help maintaining HR-related programs, keeping HR programs running, maintaining the employee handbook, and researching/implementing best practices. We want to continue to run smooth, support employees, and be a great place to work as we grow.

Who you are:

  • 1-3 years experience of HR generalist and recruiting exposure prepares you well for this role. This experience was preferably at a startup.

  • You are technically savvy. You can learn new systems, figure out an ATS, make entries to our health enrollment systems, and configure calendars. You can also assess if a Data Analyst applicant knows their stuff!

  • You have meticulous attention to detail.. You don’t drop a thing, even with the changing priorities of a startup. And it bugged you to no end that the first sentence had two periods.

  • You are resourceful and able to find answers on your own, work with initiative, and love educating yourself whenever you can.

  • People would describe you as personable. You’ll be the face of the company, our Ambassador. We’re looking for someone approachable, sharp, discerning, and adaptable.

What you’ll do:


  • Create and maintain job postings

  • Screen resumes and conduct screening calls - explain our company, services, the available role, and assess basic job requirements

  • Schedule interviews and coordinate calendars

  • Prioritize and manage searches (i.e. maintain an ATS, coordinate with outside agencies)

  • Coordinate feedback sessions with the hiring teams

  • Provide benefit information, arrange reference checks, and help get to a signed offer

  • Build and maintain referral programs

  • Participate in recruiting events (i.e. job fairs, meetups, career center events, etc.)

  • Build our employer brand (from shaping our Glassdoor presence to updating copy on job sites, but also how we portray ourselves in responses to applicants or guests at a job fair) - help us demonstrate the value we offer as an employer

Human Resources

  • Help onboard new talent (get them situated, with the right equipment, and feeling great about their decision to work at SLM)

  • Guide new managers on how to conduct reviews and serve as a resource for employee-related issues

  • Build structure around our people processes, from how to best conduct performance reviews to improving our benefits and perks

  • Share health care info or related benefit information with employees, enroll new hires, and oversee adjustments into HR-related systems

  • Be our HR professional - confidential with sensitive information and an impartial/accessible employee resource
